Fateh Sagar Lake





Fateh Sager Lake is a vicinity for young lovers, it is situated in the north of Lake Picholas. Built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, Fateh Sagar Lake got its name from Maharana Fateh Singh. This beautiful lake is surrounded by hills was constructed Maharana Jai Singh in the year 1687. Due to heavy rain the old embankment of the lake was swept away then Maharana Fateh Singh reconstructed this lake in the year 1888 so the name given to this Lake is Fateh Sagar Lake. Fateh Sagar, the second of City Udaipur's four man-made lakes. This is 2800 ft long and its maximum depth is 30ft. Fateh Sagar Lake is well-planned with three intake channels and an overflow channel that is usually brought into play in the rainy season. At the center of the Fateh Sagar Lake an largest of the three islands is indeed a lovely garden known as Nehru Park, which has been named after the esteemed first Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru. Its focal point is the boat shaped café, which is a hot favorite amongst the visitors who love to sip coffee as they take in the reigning tranquility and serenity of the place. The second island is for more scientific-minded people, especially those who love astronomy, as this is the place where a high-resolution solar observatory is strategically installed. It is considered a prime site for obtaining good solar images because of its secluded location with clear skies above and clear waters below it. The smallest island to the west has proved itself useful by providing a site to support a jet fountain. Lake Fateh Sagar is connected to Lake Pichhola through a canal that has gates. The lake has shape of a pear. Every year a festival named as Hariyali Amavasya Mela organized here in the month of Shrawan. This water body has lately formed a second major source of drinking water for the city of Udaipur. The main feeder canal of the lake comes from Madar tank situated at a higher altitude about 15 km from Udaipur City.
