Lakes of city Udaipur
City Udaipur famous for its beautiful lakes and watercourses.Lakes make a perfect backdrop to the romantic setting of City Udaipur.The city is popular by the phrase of 'the city of lakes'.Udaipur,a dream destination of every tourist.these lakes have been providing water to the city dwellers.Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar Lake, Jaisamand and Lake Rajsamand Lake. are the five prominent lakes of City Udaipur. Apart from these lakes, Doodh Talai, Swaroop Sagar (Kumharia Talab) and Badi Ka Talab (Jiyan Sagar) Talab are other small lakes that form the part of watercourses in Udaipur.
* Pichola Lake
Lake Pichola has a masonry dam popularly known as the Badipol, which is 4 km long and 3 km wide.In 1362, the beautiful lake was built by Pichhu Banjara during the ruling period of Maharana Lakha.
* Fateh Sagar Lake
Fateh Sager Lake is a vicinity for young lovers, it is situated in the north of Lake Picholas.Fateh Sagar is 2.4 km. long, 1.6 km. wide and 11.5 m. at its deepest point. Built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, Fateh Sagar Lake got its name from Maharana Fateh Singh, who later made additions to it.
* Udai Sagar Lake
The Udai Sagar Lake lies 15 km east of Udaipur. The lake is around 4 km long and 2.5 km wide with a maximum depth of around 9 metres. The construction of this lake was started in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh and got completed in 1565.
* Jaisamand Lake
Also known as Dhebar , is located 52km south east of Udaipur. Jaisamand Lake is renowned for being the second largest artificial lake in Asia.In 1685, Maharana Jai Singh built this lake while making a dam on the Gomti River.This lake covers an area of 36sq km, stretches to the length of 14 km and width of 9 km. The lake is deep to the maximum of 102 feet and has a circumference of 30 miles.
* Rajsamand Lake
Rajsamand Lake is one of the five popular lakes of Udaipur. Located 66kms in the north of city Udaipur,Lake lies between Rajnagar and Kankroli.The lake is also known by the name of Rajsamudra Lake in Rajasthan. Rajsamand Lake was built by Maharana Raj Singh in 1660, the lake stretches to the length of 4 miles and 1.75 miles in width. The lake has the approximate depth of 60 feet.River Gomti is the main supplier of water to Rajsamand Lake.
* Doodh Talai
Dudh Talai is a pretty lake on the southeast side of Lake Pichola. The best place to catch a spectacular sunset in Udaipur is this beautiful garden near Dudh Talai pond.
* Swaroop Sagar (Kumharia Talab)
Swaroop Sagar is a small artificial lake that was created by Maharana Swaroop Singh. The lake was subsequently named after him. Kumharia Talab is connected with Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake.
* Badi Ka Talab (Jiyan Sagar)
Badi Ka Talab located in the village of Badi also known as Jiyan sagar, named after Jana Devi, the mother of Maharana Raj Singh, is at a distance of 10 kms.in the north-east of Udaipur.It was built in 1684 A.D. at a cost of about 6 lakhs of rupees. The Lake has an embankment of 1.55 Square Kms., 180 Mts. being long and 18 Mts. deep. Badi Ka Talab (Jiyan Sagar) also adores three artistic kiosks (Umbrella shaped shad).
